Bataying Ancient Post Village is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

Bataying is located in Mushihe Town, Jiujiang City, situated midway between Changchun and Jilin, the two major cities in Jilin Province. With an elevation of 688 meters, it is the highest peak in Jiujiang City. It lies 70 kilometers west of Changchun, 50 kilometers east of Jilin, and only 22 kilometers from Changchun Longjia International Airport, making it easily accessible.

The national A-level tourist attraction, Bataying Scenic Area, covers an area of 240 hectares with a forest coverage rate of 80%, abundant in wild plants and traditional Chinese medicinal herbs. Ascending the 800 steps to the main peak’s eighth beacon tower, you’ll find the southern peak steep and majestic, while the northern peak is rugged and layered with ridges. On the cliffs hangs the famous Fox Fairy Cave, associated with various folk legends. From the summit, you can see Jiujiang City and Yinma River to the west, and Jilin City and the Songhua River to the east. The rolling mountains of Bataying are often shrouded in clouds and mist, with vast fertile farmlands sprawling below—stretching for miles. It is the only lesser-known climbable high mountain in the Changchun area.

In the late 1990s, Ni Lianhe, a Chinese-American painter, began developing the Bataying scenic area and invested progressively in its cultural tourism projects, aiming to establish it as the premier brand for Guandong culture tourism in Jilin Province. He also invited renowned Jilin folk experts such as Cao Baoming, celebrated film and television artists from Changchun Film Studio like Jin Xiwu, and famed director Li Qiankuan to inspect and plan the site. Ultimately, Bataying was positioned as a large-scale Guandong folk culture park, centered around showcasing Guandong and the culture of those who migrated to the region, embodying the harmony of multi-ethnic cultures unique to the northeast—including Han, Manchu, Korean, and Mongolian peoples. The park integrates tourism, sightseeing, film production, vacationing, youth traditional education, and dining & entertainment.

Initially, the development of the Bataying Guandong Cultural Park project was slow due to transportation limitations. In 2006, after Jiujiang City government improved the connecting roads, construction accelerated. To date, 58 attractions have been completed, including the First Gate of Guandong, the Bataying Mask Gate, the Civil Official Dismount and Military Official Dismount Archways, the Old City Gate, the Eight Trigrams Prayer Flags, the Zodiac Square, the Fox Fairy Cave, the Beacon Tower, Turtle Pit, Millhouse, Gristmill, Courtyard, Errenzhuan Opera Theater, Distillery, Tofu Workshop, Oil Mill, Artillery Fort, Bell Tower, Grand Drum Tower, Incense Shop, Doll Shop, Sanbao Hall, Beer House, Inn, Communal Household Courtyard, Production Brigade, Country Bar, Hundred-Vegetable Garden, Hundred-Herb Garden, Fishing Pond, Canteen, Ancient Elm Tree, Hundred-Lotus Hall, Eight Banners Barracks, Country Homes, Mountain Produce Store, Apricot Blossom Village, Wagon Inn, Horse Saddle Huts, Guandong Rare Birds Museum, “No-Shower” Bathhouse, Self-Service Lodge, Misty Tea Room, Beekeeping Hall, Rare Birds Exhibit, and Animal Park. In the autumn of 2008, the resort began trial operations, receiving some tourists with positive feedback. During the Double Ninth Festival hiking event, the Jilin Folk Art Troupe performed for visitors, attracting over ten thousand hikers. In September, more than 300 students and faculty from Jilin College of the Arts and Jilin Urban Construction College spent ten days sketching there, earning unanimous praise.

In 2009, Mr. Ni Lianhe increased investment in the Guandong Cultural Park, adding projects such as the Guandong Celebrity Hall, Guandong Folk Museum, Shaman Paper-cutting Art Gallery, and the Guandong Fishing Culture Base. Existing attractions were further enhanced, and interior props and displays were installed. With support from the Jiujiang City Tourism Bureau, Bataying Guandong Cultural Park was rated as a national A-level scenic area.

In the future, the Jilin Bataying Guandong Cultural Park will become the largest folk culture park in Jilin Province. It is set to be a leader and pioneer among cultural and tourism projects in the province, making new and greater contributions to inheriting and promoting traditional Chinese Guandong culture, as well as to the development and prosperity of the province’s cultural tourism industry.
