Changchun Movie Wonderland is a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction.

On the western side of Changchun City lies a unique film-themed amusement park that integrates the world’s most advanced special effects cinema technologies — Changchun Movie Wonderland. Nestled by the beautiful Jingyue Lake in Changchun, Jilin Province, it is the first world-class movie theme entertainment park in China and a landmark project symbolizing the reform and second venture of Changchun Film Studio. At the end of the last century, under new historical conditions, China’s film industry faced severe challenges from various aspects including the socialist market economy. The renowned Changchun Film Studio, known as the cradle of New China’s cinema, also encountered unprecedented difficulties in survival and development. Under the guidance and care of relevant central authorities and the leadership of the Jilin Provincial Party Committee and Government, Changchun Film Studio actively and steadily advanced reforms in its system and mechanisms, establishing a modern enterprise system that aligns with the socialist market economy, corresponds with the construction of socialist spiritual civilization, and conforms to the inherent laws of film production. Building on the success of its reforms, the Changchun Film Group drew on the successful experiences of the international film industry, leveraging its profound cinematic heritage to integrate modern film industry with tourism. By extending the film industry chain, it created China’s first world-class movie theme entertainment park, pioneering a new model for China’s big film era.

Changchun Movie Wonderland draws inspiration from Hollywood and selects the best of Disney, standing on the shoulders of two giants in the global theme park industry to become China’s own “Oriental Hollywood.” As a movie-themed amusement park, it has developed a series of entertainment projects centered around the theme of film. Special effects movies are the most distinctive tourist attraction at Changchun Movie Wonderland. Within the park, there are five special effect theaters: 3D Giant Screen, 4D Effects, Laser Suspension, Motion Sphere, and Stereoscopic Water Screen. Gathering the world’s most cutting-edge special effects films in one park is something neither Hollywood nor Disney has achieved. Hence, Changchun Movie Wonderland is also hailed as the “Capital of World Special Effects Films.”

The climate of Changchun lies in the transitional zone between the humid eastern mountainous region and the semi-arid plains of the west, classified as a temperate continental semi-humid monsoon climate. Although the eastern and southern parts are not far from the ocean, the blocking effect of the Changbai Mountains weakens the summer heat, making summers relatively cool. The western and northern areas consist of the flat Songliao Plain, where Siberian polar continental air masses flow unimpeded, and seasonal winds have a strong influence. Therefore, the climate features significant annual temperature variations and distinct seasons: snowy winters, sunny springs, pleasant summers, and cool, comfortable autumns. The best times to visit are spring, summer, and autumn.

Changchun Movie Wonderland boasts a distinctive film and television culture theme, rich in both cinematic and ethnic cultural significance. Using film programs as a medium, it unveils the mysteries of filmmaking, allowing visitors to fully enjoy the highbrow spiritual delight brought by film art and outstanding Chinese national culture. Visitors to Changchun Movie Wonderland will find not only lifelike yet fantastical movie scenes but also the beautiful bubbles of a fairy-tale world. The park showcases the essence of global theme park giants such as Universal Studios Hollywood and Disneyland, featuring the most advanced and comprehensive range of special effects films, including the Motion Sphere. Equally important as the entertainment offerings are the colorful park activities that captivate visitors.

The Brazilian samba troupe performed over 180 shows in a row, igniting this “Oriental Hollywood” with passion; the Russian Art Blossom Dance Troupe brought a rich Russian flair; the grand display of Changchun’s deep cinematic heritage — the Film Character Parade; spectacular acrobatic art tours; and humorous events such as the “Clown Festival,” “Singles Day,” “Valentine’s Day,” “Happy Children’s Day,” “Chinese Acrobatics Carnival,” “Magic Festival,” and “Water Olympics” all serve as iconic programs that firmly etch Changchun Movie Wonderland into the heart of Changchun City.
