Shengjing Hunting Ground

In 1895, Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty renamed the “Shengjing Hunting Ground” and decreed it the “Imperial Deer Park.” Our city was also the first to pioneer the tribute of deer and the artificial breeding of sika deer. At that time, the Zhao Family Deer Farm and Ma’s Deer Antler were widely renowned and famous far and wide. The development of this project highlights the themes of “hunting” and “deer.” It is understood that there are currently no similar projects at home or abroad. This project is novel and unique, with distinctive features, and can become a flagship tourism product with strong appeal for our city.

The site selection for the “Shengjing Hunting Ground” should have convenient transportation, good vegetation, suitable topography, abundant water sources, and potential for sustainable development. The planned area is approximately 300 hectares in the near term and around 1,000 hectares in the long term. Based on the above requirements, it is proposed to develop the project with the Dongfeng County Hengdaohe Deer Farm—which has a certain history and scale of deer farming—as the core, extending outward to Hengdaohe Town and Xiaosiping Township, to establish the Shengjing Hunting Ground (Imperial Deer Park) and a Deer Products Exhibition Hall.

This area will primarily feature free-range sika deer, rabbits, pheasants, and other animals, and will include a horse racing track, ski slope, horse-drawn (or dog-drawn) sleighs, an ice-skating rink, and a shooting range. It will be equipped with horses, bows and arrows, and costumes of Qing emperors for visitors’ enjoyment. The area will cover no less than 200 hectares. The zone will mainly focus on the exhibition, processing, and sale of deer products, along with other local specialties such as ginseng and Qing Dynasty replicas. Facilities will include an exhibition corridor, a deer products exhibition hall, and processing facilities—offering a one-stop service for exhibition, processing, and shopping.

Qing-style imitation architecture such as “Summer Mountain Resorts” and “Imperial Travel Palaces” will be constructed, featuring predominantly Manchu architectural styles. Facilities will include hotels, villas, couple’s cottages, and wooden stables. Centered around deer products with Manchu style and customs, a variety of local specialty foods will be developed, allowing visitors to taste regional flavors while sightseeing.

The area will mainly raise locally suitable species and various artificially bred animals for visitors to observe and use for other purposes. This includes the artificial breeding and processing of local specialty mountain delicacies and game, predominantly wild vegetables supplemented by other green vegetables. Visitors can personally pick, taste, and purchase these items.
