Every year from December to January or February in eastern Taiwan is the winter fallow period. During this time, lush green rice paddies transform into vast fields of golden rapeseed blossoms. The spectacular sea of flowers can be seen from Highway 193 in Hualien all the way to Highway 197 in Taitung, including Yuli, Fuli, and Shoufeng in Hualien, as well as Luye, Guanshan, and Chishang in Taitung – making it one of the most enchanting sights in the East Rift Valley.

Vast fields of rapeseed flowers create a dazzling golden landscape set against blue skies and white clouds, full of bright pastoral charm. In addition, the winter scenery of the East Rift Valley has become even more colorful in recent years, with some farmers switching to planting vibrant cosmos flowers. These include the Danong Danfu area, Luye Ercepingshan Flower Sea, Fenglin Flower Sea, and Dapodi Pond in Chishang.
