Vast seas of blooming rapeseed flowers—must-photograph golden landscapes

Every year from December to January or February in eastern Taiwan is the winter fallow season, when lush green rice paddies transform into expansive fields of golden-blooming rapeseed flowers. The spectacular sea of flowers can be seen from Taiwan’s Highway 193 in Hualien all the way to Highway 197 in Taitung, including Yuli, Fuli, and Shoufeng in Hualien, as well as Luye, Guanshan, and Chishang in Taitung, making it one of the most enchanting sights in the East Rift Valley.

Hualien:

Fuli (Fuli Township Agricultural Exhibition and Sales Center), Yuli (Highway 193, Guest City Bridge), Shoufeng (Fenglin Flower Sea), Dongfengli on Highway 193, Guangfu (Danong Daifu Plain Forest Park)

Taitung:

Luye, Guanshan (Degao Overpass), Chishang (Bourbon Boulevard, Dapodi Pond)

The vast expanse of rapeseed flower fields creates a dazzling golden spectacle, set against blue skies and white clouds, offering a bright and idyllic rural view. In addition, the landscapes of the East Rift Valley in winter have become even more colorful in recent years, as some farmers have switched to planting vibrant cosmos flowers. These include the Danong Daifu area, the Erchengping Flower Sea in Luye, Fenglin Flower Sea, and the Dapodi Pond in Chishang.
