After the Jin clan Wanyan's Aguda defeated the Liao Dynasty, in the sixth year of the Tianqing era of the Liao (the second year of the Jin era, 1116), the Liao-controlled Changyi County of Guangzhou was renamed to Zhangyi County and placed under Shenzhou jurisdiction. The Ancient City of Zhangyi is located within Zhangyi Village in present-day Zhangyizhan Town. After the Jin clan Wanyan's Aguda defeated the Liao Dynasty, in the sixth year of the Tianqing era of the Liao (the second year of the Jin era, 1116), the Liao-controlled Changyi County of Guangzhou was renamed to Zhangyi County and placed under Shenzhou jurisdiction. The city wall was two li and 172 paces in circumference, with gates on the southeast sides. By the Yuan Dynasty, a post station was established in this city, named Zhangyi Station, equipped with “ninety horses, nine carts, and ninety oxen.” In the early Ming Dynasty, it came under the jurisdiction of the Shenyang Central Guard. In the sixth year of the Tianming era of the Qing Dynasty, it was taken over by the Qing.
