Wanquan Park (formerly Shenyang Zoo)

Wanquan Park is located on Wanquan Street in Dadong District, Shenyang, covering an area of 620,000 square meters. It was built in 1906 by a local gentry surnamed Shen. After the liberation of Shenyang, the park's development accelerated rapidly. In 1973, it was transformed into Shenyang Zoo, and large, rare animals from Zhongshan Park and Labor Park were relocated here. The park features modern, artistically designed enclosures such as the Panda House, Giraffe House, Waterfowl Lake, Lion and Tiger Mountain, and Monkey Hill. It displays over 130 species of animals, including Class I protected animals and rare species from abroad, such as the Siberian tiger, panda, cougar, Chilean turkey, leopard, seal, red-crowned crane, golden monkey, Pere David’s deer, and the mantled guenon gifted by Japan. The park is lush with lawns and flower beds, decorated with potted plants along pathways, and shaded animal enclosures. With boat rides drifting by, the elegant and pleasant animal exhibits attract hundreds of thousands of visitors annually, peaking at over 1.62 million visitors in a single year. In 2001, after the zoo was relocated, the original site was renovated into a public park and renamed Wanquan Park.
