Wanliutang Park

Wanliutang is located in the southeastern part of Shenyang, with the total area of Wanliutang Park covering 310,000 square meters. It gets its name from the great variety and abundance of willow trees found there. During the Qing Dynasty, Wanliutang was praised as the “Willow Pond for Summer Retreat” and was listed as one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Shengjing. A poet from the Jiaqing era of the Qing Dynasty, Zhang Xianghe, once composed the elegant verse “Shady lanes stretch all the way to the city” to celebrate the beautiful and refreshing scenery of Wanliutang.

Between 1998 and 1999, the Shenhe District government carried out a comprehensive planning and renovation of Wanliutang Park. New facilities were added, including a large cultural square, musical fountains, modern sculptures, a children’s playground, a Kids’ Fun City, as well as expanded lawns, flower gardens, orchards, plum blossom gardens, and maple tree groves. These enhancements have imbued Wanliutang with even more natural charm, making it a culturally enriched natural garden that combines leisure, entertainment, and sightseeing.
