Shenyang Wanshou Palace

Wanshou Palace is located on Lingbao Mountain in Zhonghua Temple Village, Wangbin Township, Dongling District, Shenyang City. It is a branch of the Taiqing Palace, one of the ten major Quanzhen Longmen sect monasteries of Taoism in China.

Wanshou Palace in Shenyang is affiliated with Shenyang Taiqing Palace and was built in the late Qing Dynasty. Its original location was on the southern bank of the Hun River in Shenyang. Following the implementation of religious policies and increased societal efforts to protect and value traditional Chinese culture, in 2004, the Shenyang Municipal Government and the Shenyang Taoist Association decided to rebuild Wanshou Palace on Lingbao Mountain in Dongling District. The reconstructed palace features architectural styles reminiscent of the Sui and Tang dynasties. Nestled against the mountain, the tiered structure creates the impression of a celestial staircase when viewed from afar and resembles a heavenly palace up close. In harmony with the nearby Zhonghua Ancient Temple, it forms a stunning landmark along the Shenyang-Fushun border and stands as the only large-scale religious site in the Shenyang area where Buddhism and Taoism coexist on the same mountain.

The palace complex consists of six exquisitely designed halls. The main hall, Yaochi Queen Mother Hall, enshrines the Holy Mother of Yaochi, Goddess Jiutian Xuannü, and the Goddess of Offspring. To the east of the Queen Mother Hall is the Wenchang Hall, which houses the Wenchang Emperor, the Deaf and Dumb Celestials, the Black Protector Grandma, and the Fox Immortal Ancestor. To the west of the Queen Mother Hall is the Lüzu Hall, dedicated to the Three Patriarchs of the Northern Branch of the Quanzhen School: Pure Yang Ancestor (Lü Dongbin), Chongyang Ancestor (Wang Chongyang), and Haichan Ancestor (Liu Haichan). The Doumu Hall enshrines the Yuanming Dao Mu Tianzun (also revered in Buddhism as the Great Bodhisattva Marici due to her past incarnation in the Western Kingdom of India) and the Sixty Jiazi Deities of the Year Gods. The Guan Di Hall is dedicated to the God of War, Guan Shengdi Jun, while the Dragon King Hall honors the Dragon King who controls rain. Additionally, there are sacred sites such as the ancient cave where the Two Immortals of Zhonghua practiced, the Hall of Taiyi Jiuku Tianzun, the City God and Earth God Shrine, and the Mountain God Shrine.
