The Shenyang Ligong University Ordnance Museum serves as a science education base and a national defense education base.

Shenyang Ligong University is a multidisciplinary university with a proud revolutionary tradition and distinct national defense characteristics. It is the only higher education institution in Northeast China offering majors in weaponry. In November 2006, to fully leverage the university’s strengths and distinctive features in ordnance disciplines, highlight the spirit of ordnance, and meet the needs of talent cultivation, scientific research, and patriotic education for faculty and students, the university extensively expanded and renovated the original Ordnance Exhibition Room of the Equipment Engineering College. In May 2007, the Shenyang Ligong University Ordnance Exhibition Hall was officially completed and opened to both the university community and the public. In March 2008, it was renamed the Shenyang Ligong University Ordnance Museum. The museum's name was inscribed by Mr. Xie Guangxuan, a renowned Chinese carrier rocket expert and academician of both the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

In April 2009, the Shenyang Ligong University Ordnance Museum was officially approved as a “Shenyang Science Popularization Base” and a “Liaoning Science Popularization Base.” In December 2009, it was designated a “National Science Education Base” by the China Association for Science and Technology. In January 2010, it was named a “Liaoning National Defense Education Base” by the People’s Government of Liaoning Province, and in May 2013, it was designated a “Shenyang Patriotic Education Base” by the People’s Government of Shenyang. The museum also houses the Ordnance Research Association under the Liaoning Ordnance Society, which regularly hosts specialized lectures on ordnance and military knowledge, providing an academic exchange platform for students and faculty in the field of ordnance science.

The Shenyang Ligong University Ordnance Museum is located at No. 6 Nanping Middle Road, Hunnan New District, Shenyang, within the campus of Shenyang Ligong University. It consists of an indoor exhibition hall and an outdoor ordnance square. The indoor exhibition area covers approximately 4,000 square meters, while the outdoor ordnance square covers about 6,000 square meters. The indoor hall mainly displays various types of conventional weapons, ammunition, fuzes, military equipment, and models. The outdoor square primarily exhibits large-scale weapons such as tanks, artillery, missiles, and aircraft. The museum currently houses a total of over 930 types and more than 2,250 pieces of exhibits.

The indoor exhibition hall of the Ordnance Museum is divided into seven sections: the Introduction Exhibition Area, the Land, Sea, Air, and Small Arms Exhibition Area, the Ammunition and Missile Exhibition Area, the Rocket Projectile and Combat Engineer Equipment Exhibition Area, the Fuze Exhibition Area, the Large Missiles and Aerospace Exhibition Area, and the Ordnance History Photo Exhibition Area. These sections use a wealth of detailed images, physical objects, and models, along with multimedia and audio-visual, light, and electrical technologies to recreate scenes of modern warfare and comprehensively introduce the types, performance, principles, and related knowledge of modern weaponry.

Since its establishment, the Ordnance Museum has continuously strengthened its role in cultural heritage and innovation, expanded its service areas, enhanced its educational functions, and vigorously promoted the spirit of ordnance. It has now developed into a "historical window" that embodies the achievements of China’s national defense industry and military construction. It serves as a multifunctional base integrating science education, national defense awareness, talent development, scientific research, and academic exchange. As one of the brightest highlights of Shenyang Ligong University, it has garnered strong social resonance and widespread acclaim, especially among young students.

The Ordnance Museum adheres to the principle of “rooted in Liaoning, serving national defense,” upholds the ordnance spirit of “patriotic dedication, self-improvement, seeking truth and pragmatism, and pursuing excellence,” and continuously innovates and keeps pace with the times. It further adjusts and enriches its exhibits, enhances modern display methods, and conducts in-depth academic research, striving tirelessly to build the Shenyang Ligong University Ordnance Museum into an influential museum in China.
