Shenyang Zhuzong Chaoyang Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Zhuzong Chaoyang Temple is situated on the lush and scenic Chaoyang Mountain in the northern part of Zhujia Town, Dongling District, Shenyang. The temple was constructed in accordance with the area's feng shui, and its name comes from its orientation. Historical records in the temple indicate that it was first built during the Tang Dynasty and was renovated during the Ming, Qing, and Republican eras. It was once the most prominent among the Eight Temples of Southeastern Shenyang and flourished with incense offerings. Its origins are said to date back over 1,300 years through oral tradition.

The origin of the temple’s name, Zhuzong Chaoyang Temple, is also tied to a touching legend. On the southeastern side of Chaoyang Mountain lies a massive rock. Legend has it that during the Tang Dynasty, a high monk traveled here and was captivated by the spiritual energy of the mountains and rivers, inspiring him to establish a temple to spread Buddhist teachings. One day, as the monk napped against the rock, he dreamed of a small pig that would not leave despite his attempts to shoo it away. The pig then spoke to him, saying, “I am the Golden Pig. I have long had a karmic bond with Buddhism and will assist you in your spiritual endeavors.” After speaking, it transformed into a golden pig. The monk woke up startled and indeed saw the golden pig standing on the rock. After the golden pig left, hoof prints were left on the stone. The monk then used this divine sign to build the temple, which is why it came to be known as “Zhuzong Chaoyang Temple” (Pig Tracks Chaoyang Temple).

After the liberation, Zhuzong Chaoyang Temple fell into serious disrepair due to years of neglect. In 1995, the temple was extensively rebuilt to its original appearance. Master Jieshen, Vice President of the Buddhist Association of China and abbot of Mount Putuo, personally inscribed the temple’s name. The rebuilt Zhuzong Chaoyang Temple covers an area of 250,000 square meters. The temple complex consists of three levels of halls built along the mountain’s contours, creating a majestic and spectacular landscape with varying heights. The walls of the halls are adorned with solemn and radiant murals, and the Buddha statues are exquisitely lifelike.

Within the temple stands an ancient pine tree, whose twisting form resembles a coiled dragon and spreads out like a canopy. It remains evergreen throughout the seasons and has stood for over a thousand years without decay. On the mountain, attractions such as the Zhuzong Pavilion, Zhuzong Rock, and Lotus Pond are simple yet elegant, offering an exceptionally serene atmosphere.
