Former Site of the Artillery Command Post of the 13th Army Corps of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army
The former site of the artillery command post of the 13th Army Corps of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army is a cultural relic protection unit of Liaoning Province.
The former site of the artillery command post of the 13th Army Corps of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army is located on Yinghua Mountain in Zhenxing District, Dandong City, and now houses the Memorial Hall of the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea.
On June 25, 1950, the Korean Civil War broke out. On June 27, the U.S. government brazenly announced armed aggression against Korea and dispatched the Seventh Fleet to occupy China’s territorial waters in the Taiwan Strait. On July 13, the Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of China issued the "Decision on Defending the Northeast Border," forming the Northeast Border Defense Army, which was led by Deng Hua to assemble near the Yalu River. Between July and August 1950, the Northeast Military Region built the command post on Yinghua Mountain in Andong.
The command post covers an area of 746.35 square meters, with a total usable area of 455.6 square meters. It consists of 12 rooms, has an underground reinforced concrete structure, and features a concave floor plan. There is a layer of soil on top, beneath which lies a one-meter-thick blast-proof layer. The interior is equipped with lighting, ventilation, and heating facilities, as well as flooring and wall tapestries. Approximately 250 meters northeast of the command post is a watchtower, covering an area of 200 square meters with a usable area of 130 square meters.
Before the Chinese People's Volunteer Army entered Korea, this command post was used by the leadership and command organs of the Volunteer Army. After Commander Peng Dehuai entered Korea with the troops, the command post was then used by the follow-up units of the Volunteer Army’s leadership organs. Throughout the entire Korean War, the command post served as a rear backup command center for the Volunteer Army. In the later stages of the war, the anti-aircraft artillery units guarding the Yalu River Bridge were stationed here.
After the end of the Korean War, the command post was handed over to the management of the 191st Regiment of the 64th Army. In December 1988, the former site of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army Command Post was listed as a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit under the name "Former Site of the Artillery Command Post of the 13th Army Corps of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army." In October 1990, the foundation of the new building of the Memorial Hall of the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea was laid at the former site of the command post, after which the site came under the management of the Memorial Hall.
