300 million to boost domestic tourism — every domestic tour group eligible for subsidy

The number of mainland Chinese tourists visiting Taiwan has plummeted. Since the new government took office, monthly tourist numbers have continued to decline, impacting related industries such as domestic tourism, consumer spending, and dining. This has led to demonstrations by industry professionals demanding government action to save the tourism sector. In response, the government has announced measures. Minister of Transportation and Communications Hochen Tan stated that they plan to allocate 300 million NTD to help travel agencies transition from serving mainland Chinese tour groups to domestic ones. The funds will be used to subsidize aspects such as food, accommodation, and transportation, with a maximum subsidy of 45,000 NTD per tour group. It is estimated that each person could benefit by around 1,000 NTD, with the policy taking effect as early as mid-this month.

In addition, neighborhood communities, schools, and civic groups that organize new domestic travel activities can also apply for subsidies; those hiring Mandarin-speaking guides will receive extra support.

According to estimates, this 300 million NTD will lead to over 230,000 people participating in domestic tour groups, generating considerable benefits for the market.
