Tanggou Scenic Area

Tanggou Scenic Area is a national-level forest park located in Caohezhang Town, Benxi Manchu Autonomous County, adjacent to Guanmen Mountain. The park covers an area of 2,167 hectares with a forest coverage rate of 90%, boasting well-preserved vegetation and a pristine ecological environment. "Green Stone Valley," "Monk’s Hat Peak," and the "Tanggou Hot Spring Development Zone" blend seamlessly to form a vast natural tapestry.

In spring, azaleas and rhododendrons bloom across the mountaintops and cliffs, while the fragrant and graceful Magnolia sieboldii fills the air. In summer, the tender beauty of Green Stone Valley bursts forth with mosses in vibrant hues of green, yellow, and blue, the picturesque Five Maidens Peaks rise majestically, and layered waterfalls drift through veils of mist. In autumn, maple leaves of various shapes carpet the hillsides, reflecting crimson hues across the valley. The area also features historical sites such as the Monument to the First Western Expedition Meeting of the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army, the Memorial Hall of General Yang Jingyu, the Monument to Anti-Japanese Hero Song Tieyan, and the Underground Command Center of the Northeast Military Region built by the Central Military Commission in the 1960s. Tanggou is rich in geothermal resources, with hot spring water containing 18 types of minerals that are highly effective in treating arthritis, rheumatism, skin diseases, and more.

The scenery of Tanggou changes with the seasons. In early spring, clusters of azaleas and large rhododendrons blanket the mountaintops and cliffs; in midsummer, the valley's wetlands teem with lush green mosses and a riot of hundreds of flowering plants. The fragrant and elegant Magnolia sieboldii adds charm to the landscape. In late autumn, the mountains are ablaze with the red foliage of seven-lobed and nine-lobed maples, casting a red glow over the valley. In deep winter, snow welcomes visitors, and icy cliffs tower magnificently. With distinct seasons, the landscapes of spring, summer, autumn, and winter each offer unique and captivating views that leave visitors enchanted.

The "Green Stone Valley" scenic zone features three gullies, nine waterfalls, numerous streams, and dozens of springs, along with five peaks piercing the sky. There are also the Five Maidens Peaks, Twin Dragons Pools, the North and South Heaven Gate Waterfalls, moss-covered green stones, layered peaks and waterfalls—all grand and majestic, naturally formed and timeless wonders. A poem describes it: "In Green Stone Valley, tender life bursts forth; mosses thrive in green, yellow, and blue. The Five Maidens Peaks are picturesque and steep, while layered waterfalls drift like veils through the mist."

The "Jingyu Stone" scenic zone includes the site of the first western expedition meeting of the Anti-Japanese United Army, the Jingyu Stone where General Yang Jingyu once sat, the origin of geothermal hot springs, and the towering Beacon Hill.

The "Monk’s Hat Peak" scenic zone; named for its resemblance to a monk’s hat, this mountain stands at an elevation of 1,234.4 meters, making it one of the highest peaks in eastern Liaoning. Upon entering this scenic area, you’ll feel as though you’ve stepped into a pristine, natural paradise, with mixed forests of birch and maple forming an ideal forest bathing environment. On South Peak Ridge stands the Monument to Anti-Japanese Hero Song Tieyan. Deep within the dense woods lies an underground wartime command post built in the 1960s, among other cultural attractions.

With beautiful scenery and a pleasant climate, coupled with abundant geothermal resources, this place has become a world-renowned tourist destination.
