Majiachengzi

Majiachengzi. Majiachengzi refers to the Yizhiqiang Fort from the Ming Dynasty, located in Majiachengzi Village, Nandian Town. Built in 1546 (the 25th year of the Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty), the fort is rectangular, measuring 400 meters in length and 250 meters in width. Guard towers were constructed at the four corners of the wall. The fort had two gates, one on the east and one on the south. The east gate was slightly northward, about 6 meters wide, with a barbican outside, while the south gate was about 8 meters wide. The remaining walls stand about 2 meters high, reaching up to 3 meters at their highest points. To address increasingly acute issues—starting from the reign of Emperor Yingzong of Ming—the Ming Dynasty gradually built the Liaodong Border Wall stretching thousands of miles, establishing forts along the wall and constructing watchtowers. “Yizhiqiang Fort” was one of the famous Seven Forts of Hedong, connected to Qinghe Fort to the northwest and Jianchang Fort to the southeast. It administered the area of Fushun Xiaozeng, which had a predominantly Ma-surnamed population, leading to the renaming of “Yizhiqiang Fort” to “Majiachengzi.” Due to the construction of the Guanyinge Reservoir, Majiachengzi has been submerged underwater.
