Chongxing Temple

Chongxing Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

In the northeast corner of Beizhen County stands Chongxing Temple, in front of which are two exquisitely built, tall and elegant ancient pagodas from the Liao Dynasty, both featuring a consistent style. The two pagodas are 43 meters apart from east to west. The eastern pagoda is 43 meters high and the western one is 42 meters high. Both are solid brick pagodas with an octagonal base and thirteen tiers of dense eaves. Each side of the base is 7 meters wide, adorned with various carvings on the surface, including lions, Atlas figures, and lotus petals. Above are inverted lotus pedestals that support the body of the pagodas. Each side of the pagoda body has arched niches housing seated Buddha statues, flanked by guardian figures, decorated with canopies, flying apsaras, and bronze mirrors. There are twelve tiers of eaves, which gradually taper inward from the bottom up. Each tier of eaves is hung with wind chimes that tinkle melodiously in the breeze. The lotus seat, precious vase, gilded spire pole, gem, and finial at the top of the pagodas are all remarkably well-preserved. The central part of the western pagoda also features a small stone stele inscribed with the “Record of the Renovation of Chongxing Temple Pagoda” from the 28th year of the Wanli reign in the Ming Dynasty (1600). In 1963, the Chongxing Temple Twin Pagodas were listed as part of the first batch of provincial-level cultural relics protection units.
