Beizhen Christian Church

The Beizhen Christian Church is a cultural relic protection unit of Liaoning Province.

The Beizhen Christian Church was originally built in the 20th year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty (1894 AD) under the supervision of British missionary Reverend Henweli. It was initially constructed on Shizi Street within Guangning City and was called Gospel Church, but was later burned down by the Boxers. In the 31st year of Guangxu (1905 AD), Henweli purchased land inside the east gate of the city and rebuilt the Christian church along with auxiliary buildings.

After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the original site of the Christian church was used to build Beizhen High School. After 1967, the church’s foundation was occupied by the field hospital of the former 64th Army, and the site has since been occupied by successive military units. The church measures 28 meters in length from north to south and 36 meters in width from east to west, covering a total area of 1,008 square meters. It is a British-style structure built with brick and stone. The building is 28 meters wide and 16 meters deep, with a base made of three layers of strip stones at the bottom. The upper part is constructed with blue bricks and features round windows and a king post truss roof, topped with gray tiles. A bell tower is built on the eastern side of the front facade, with a doorway below that is 6 meters wide and 5.5 meters deep, connecting to the main church. Inside the church, there is a main hall and a lecture room. Though the doors, windows, and roof have been destroyed by fire, the walls remain intact.
