A French feast of Chinese ingredients served in Western style: classic dishes include lobster sauce shark fin steak

The Straits Association has long been famous among foodies for its “hot pot,” but it actually offers a classic French cuisine set menu called “Anton Hall Set.” The current president of the Straits Association, Cai Chen-nan, introduced the once-renowned Anton Hall French cuisine from his earlier-founded Lai Lai Hotel (now the Taipei Sheraton) to the Straits Association. He also hired the former French head chef of Anton Hall to prepare authentic French dishes using traditional methods, allowing diners to enjoy the most genuine flavors. These include pan-seared French foie gras, French-style lobster, Australian wagyu gourmet steak, and classic Chinese-ingredients-in-Western-style dishes such as lobster sauce shark fin steak, red pepper abalone, and fresh grouper salad—each one can be considered a classic.

Regarding the well-known Taipei dining club “Straits Association,” the general impression is that it’s membership-based and a gathering place for dignitaries, which can easily create the misconception that it’s exclusive. French cuisine also tends to be perceived as an expensive luxury. The Straits Association stated that to change the public’s traditional perception of both French cuisine and the restaurant, and to allow more people to enjoy refined and delicious French food, they have specially launched a “Classic Anton Hall Set Menu Series” promotion. Starting in October for a duration of one to two months, there is now an across-the-board 15% discount. The general public only needs to make a phone reservation to enjoy romantic French cuisine.
