Taiwan’s outlying island of Liuqiu is perfect for a light autumn or winter getaway, and there are so many delicious foods to try here. Pingzi is about to share with you Ga Ji, located on the bustling main street of Liuqiu Island. Don’t miss the signature Honeycomb Shrimp and Ryukyu Sea Treasures when you visit this eatery. After tasting them, you’ll be just as obsessed as Pingzi, finding yourself reminiscing about the aroma even in the middle of the night.

This Ga Ji on Liuqiu Island may look very ordinary from the outside, but during mealtimes, it’s always packed with customers and motorcycles line up along the street, often with no more space left. If you’re planning to dine here, come early. The staff is limited, so be patient while waiting for these delicious dishes.

New promotion at the entrance: order a set meal for NT$2000 and get a free drink. The boss is really generous.

Step inside, and you won’t find much decoration — just large red round tables that give off an old-style banquet vibe. But don’t underestimate this place.

Recommended dishes featured on the walls. Before trying Ga Ji on Liuqiu, let’s introduce the chef and owner. He has cooked for national banquets (Double Tenth National Day celebrations), banquets for high-ranking officials, and major promotions for Pingtung’s blackfin tuna — he’s a renowned, top-tier chef. The boss wanted to bring his excellent cooking skills to Liuqiu Island, which is why these dishes can now only be found here.

Every wall in the restaurant — and even the ceiling — is covered in signatures from visitors. There are even name tags from Travel King (Ai Wan Ke) interviews. That alone tells you about its fame.

It gets hot in Liuqiu, and there are drinks in the fridge you can grab — but they’re not free.

The menu, a full sheet of paper, clearly lists all the restaurant’s signature dishes — from fried rice to stir-fried combo meals. The selection is rich and varied.

At Ga Ji, don’t miss: Railway Pork Chop Rice — made using their own specially developed seasoning and technique to create juicy and tender pan-fried pork chops. Also try: Scallion Chicken Rice — featuring boneless local chicken simmered in premium broth, then drizzled with specially prepared aromatic chicken oil. The aroma is irresistible, and the texture is bouncy. Aside from combo meals, there are also refined à la carte dishes: Collagen-rich Teriyaki Fish Tail, chewy and flavorful Jade Belt Squid, super savory Taiwanese Dongpo Pork, and crispy, delicious Honeycomb Shrimp — every dish is a master creation by the chef. On this day, Pingzi dined here with family and friends — three of them — and ordered à la carte dishes paired with steamed rice, deliberately picking different recommended specialties.

Stir-fried vegetables were incredibly crisp, cooked with the right heat — proof of the chef’s skill. The dishes vary depending on what’s available daily, so you can ask the chef what he recommends.

Signature Honeycomb Shrimp — the moment it was served, Pingzi couldn’t take her eyes off it and kept snapping photos. It’s such an amazing dish, exciting just to look at.

The Honeycomb Shrimp is a creative dish where fresh shrimp, fish, and squid are coated in egg white and flour, deep-fried, and then drizzled with a duck egg and rice flour sauce. It must use duck eggs — this is where the chef’s unique creativity shines.

The richly aromatic, crispy egg has a perfectly round shape with a 3D effect, earning it the nickname “Liuqiu Pizza.”

When you bite into the Honeycomb Shrimp, it’s wonderfully crispy. With a sprinkle of salt and pepper, you’ll discover layers of plump shrimp and squid inside. It’s rich, satisfying, and incredibly tasty — plus, it’s not greasy at all, making it hard to stop eating. Pingzi fell in love with it at first bite and wished she could order another portion after finishing one. If you don’t try this Honeycomb Shrimp here, your visit is incomplete.

Liuqiu Sea Treasures. Made by deep-frying squid skin over high heat, then stir-fried with scallions and celery, it’s deeply flavorful and pairs excellently with rice. It’s also great as a drinking snack. The squid skin is crispy but not tough to chew — in fact, chewing it brings out even more of the squid’s umami. It’s utterly delicious.

Fresh Fish Soup — Swordfish Head Soup. Originally planning to order salted and crispy swordfish head, Boss Bao Ge noticed we liked salted flavors and instead prepared it as a soup. Pingzi never imagined swordfish head could be turned into a soup, but this soup actually elevated the dish even further. Good food doesn’t require complicated techniques — just fresh fish and a clear broth, and you can tell the chef’s real skill.

Scoop it up with a spoon, and you’ll see plenty of fish. Just looking at it makes your mouth water. The swordfish meat is delicate and doesn’t turn mushy when cooked. Made into soup, it’s sweet and savory, with scallions adding fragrance.

If you’re visiting Liuqiu, this is Pingzi’s second must-try local dish on the island. Ga Ji on Liuqiu — don’t miss its signature Honeycomb Shrimp and Liuqiu Sea Treasures. Once you taste them, you’ll be haunted by the flavors for a long time. Trust us, after reading this, you’ll be filled with anticipation. Come pay homage now and enjoy a light autumn or winter trip.
