Passenger volume up 5.3%  EVA Air to launch 6 new routes including Istanbul and Cebu next year

EVA Air announced today (October 7) that it will hold an online travel fair and give away one grand prize of a 2016 round-the-world ticket with no restrictions on destinations or number of flights. The airline also revealed plans for 2016 to not only increase flight frequency on North American routes but also launch new services to Istanbul, Cebu, Delhi, and Chicago.

EVA Air General Manager Zheng Chuan-yi stated that from January to August this year, EVA Air’s passenger transport market grew by 5.3% compared to last year, with revenue increasing by NT$2.8 billion. Both the transpacific and cross-strait routes saw a 15% growth. Despite the overall weak economic climate, the airline remains optimistic about the passenger market next year. According to statistics, except for South Korea, which was affected by MERS, all other EVA Air routes showed growth this year. In addition to popular routes to Japan, Europe also saw higher passenger loads due to exchange rate factors.

In 2016, EVA Air will introduce 7 new 777-300ERs and 6 A321s into its fleet. The number of North American flights has already increased to 63 this year and will rise to 77 next year. Additionally, in March 2016, EVA Air plans to launch direct flights to Istanbul, Turkey, along with new services to Cebu, Delhi, and Chicago in North America. For cross-strait routes, EVA Air has also been allocated new routes to Nantong and Huai’an.
