Must-try Queued Desserts in Osaka: Classic Half-Baked Cheesecake with Rich, Blissful Flavor

A must-try dessert in Osaka, the popular PABLO half-baked cheesecake is a crowd favorite, and their mille-feuille is also a highly sought-after souvenir that gets rave reviews from friends and family.

Namba in Osaka is an amazing place to explore, with plenty of nearby photo-worthy attractions. But after a long day of walking, your feet will likely get sore, and you'll want to find a cozy spot to enjoy some drinks and desserts. That’s when PABLO’s half-baked cheesecake became our top pick. Even before visiting Kansai, we had heard so much about this famous cheesecake and were eager to give it a try~

Here's a look at the full menu in the store. Coffee is around 306 Japanese yen, while the cheesecake starts at 630 yen (about NT$164), with the most expensive option being 806 yen (about NT$210). There are also many other cakes, drinks, and ice creams to choose from.

As expected for a popular spot, we waited about ten to twenty minutes just to get inside.

Be careful when queuing—there are separate lines for dine-in and takeout. Getting in the wrong line means starting over.

Clear signs at the entrance display the menu items and prices, so you can review them while waiting in line to speed up the ordering process and save time.

To the left after entering is the mille-feuille section, which comes in a variety of flavors. A friend bought some to take back as souvenirs, and they were reportedly absolutely delicious. I regret not getting some myself—next time, I’ll definitely do better (in the name of not letting down friends and family)!

Once inside the store, you can start ordering, and payment is taken upfront. The staff work efficiently, so you just wait a bit nearby for your order to be ready, then head upstairs to find a seat.

The staircase to the second-floor dining area is on the right side of the counter.

Ta-da~ Our group of four ordered four different desserts, including two of the signature classic original half-baked cheesecakes (630 yen each, about NT$164) and a blueberry-flavored cheesecake (417 yen, about NT$109).

Another one was this chocolate banana cheesecake (806 yen, about NT$210).

Being coffee lovers, we ordered one iced and one hot coffee (306 yen each, about NT$80).

Just as we were about to dig in, a burst of lively music played—and somehow, the staff had already taken their positions and started dancing to the upbeat tune.

Not only did they perform energetic moves, but their expressions were hilarious, and the service staff were incredibly enthusiastic. They genuinely love dancing, putting their whole heart into every move—it wasn’t just half-hearted gesturing. When they started dancing, other guests began taking out their phones to record or even sing along, since the songs were all super familiar, like the theme song from Chibi Maruko-chan: "Biba biba ba~ baba baba ba~"

After watching the high-energy dance performance by the staff, the atmosphere became even more lively. It really shows how much care Japanese-run restaurants put into the experience, and their staff are incredibly warm and adorable.

Then came the tasting time~ Up first: the classic half-baked cheesecake. Alongside the cheesecake, they serve syrup and vanilla ice cream. However, I found that adding the syrup made it a bit too sweet for my taste @ @. If you’re not a big fan of super sweet desserts like me, use the syrup sparingly—the cheesecake itself already has a layer of syrup brushed on, giving it a fairly high level of sweetness. The filling melts in your mouth with an intense, rich flavor, so cheese lovers will probably adore it. But eating too much might leave your mouth feeling a bit dry.

This is the chocolate banana cheesecake ordered by the Little Prince (806 yen).
Although I didn’t get to try this one, the combination of chocolate and banana is always irresistible. I’m sure this flavor is just as good.

A place like this is definitely a favorite for young women, groups of friends, and besties. And what’s something girls love to do the most? Take selfies, of course~ So the store has thoughtfully provided some cute signage that you can use freely. They’re perfect for taking adorable photos and also double as free advertising—killing two birds with one stone.
