Kaohsiung’s Formosa Boulevard Station is more than just the Dome of Light — the “Mini Louvre” makes its dazzling debut

Since the light show at the Dome of Light in Kaohsiung MRT’s Formosa Boulevard Station debuted on September 23, the Dome of Light has transformed from a static artwork into a dynamic art installation featuring both sound and light effects. The light show is staged at scheduled times daily, attracting both domestic and international visitors. For this special event, Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corporation has introduced an additional feature.Drawing inspiration from the artistic concept of the Louvre’s glass pyramid, they’ve installed golden lighting fixtures at the glass curtain wall entrances of Exits 1 and 3, creating a warm ambiance.This connects with the Dome of Light to form a unified art installation, making Formosa Boulevard Station a hot spot for wedding photography once again.

A city is beautiful because of art, and many cities around the world are renowned and shine thanks to their iconic art landmarks. Formosa Boulevard Station is not only a station of the Kaohsiung MRT but also an important art landmark in Kaohsiung. The Dome of Light inside the station, designed by artist Narcissus Quagliata, depicts the story of love and life. The station’s Exits 1 to 4, designed by Japanese architect Shin Takamatsu, feature four large glass and steel portals inspired by the impression of prayer. Their stylish exteriors carry a deeper meaning of pursuing peace.

Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corporation stated: To gain a deeper understanding of the story or details of the Dome of Light, you can borrow an MP3 audio guide device from the Kaohsiung MRT Merchandise Store. Simply present your ID or pay a deposit of NT$1,000 to borrow it for free. Each rental lasts one hour, and the device must be returned before the store closes on the same day.
