Packing before a trip is the most frustrating part. I’ve had luggage that weighed 13kg even before leaving—almost bursting at the seams, with no room left for any souvenirs. The more you pack, the less space you have. Follow the steps below, and your suitcase will shed at least 3kg easily.

1) Use a Soft/Canvas Suitcase
“I didn’t bring too much, but my luggage is still heavy.” That’s because I was using a hard-shell suitcase, which is comparatively heavier. On the other hand, a soft-shell suitcase doesn’t add much weight and can even compress a bit more, making it lighter.

2) Bring Skincare Samples
You might not usually use face masks, but while traveling you might want to apply them daily and take good care of your skin. However, by the time you get back to the hotel, you’re often too tired and fall asleep right away, leaving no time for skincare. That’s why bringing skincare samples is a great idea—they’re for single use, don’t take up much space, and eliminate the need for bulky bottles.

3) Minimize What You Pack
Avoid bringing unnecessary and heavy everyday items such as hair dryers/curling irons/facial cleansing devices/infusers, and don’t overpack shoes.

4) Pack Lightweight Clothing
Clothing takes up the most space. If you’re heading somewhere warm, don’t bring too many clothes—cotton T-shirts and versatile pieces are ideal. Rolling your clothes saves much more space than folding them.

5) Only Bring Essential Makeup
Ever brought a full set of makeup and brushes, only to use three or four items during the trip? Just bring the essentials, and you can always buy more when you need them locally.

6) Make Good Use of Packing Cubes/Organizers
A great helper for saving space. When you open your luggage, everything is neat and tidy, allowing you to quickly find what you need.

7) Put Heavy Items in Your Carry-On
If you need to bring something heavy, pack it in your carry-on bag. (For example, if you buy books or electronics* on your trip, you can put them in your carry-on.)
*Electronics must comply with carry-on baggage quantity and regulation requirements.
Pro Tip – A little trick I learned from friends while traveling:

Pro Tip 1: Pack Clothes for Only Two Days
When going shopping, there’s no need to pack too many clothes—just buy and wear them right away. It’s convenient and efficient.

Pro Tip 2: Bring Old Clothes
Wear them and discard them—freeing up space in your luggage every day of your trip.
There are so many packing methods out there. Got any clever tips? Don’t forget to #tag your friends and share happily.
