Head Chef’s Dishes Are Served Up！Tainan Food Festival Kicks Off in December

As Taiwan’s culinary capital, Tainan has made its Food Festival one of the city’s most iconic tourism events, attracting countless food enthusiasts every year. The Tainan City Tourism Bureau announced that the 2015 Tainan Food Festival, taking place this December, will focus on local culinary artisans, complemented by renowned food experts and artistic performances, offering the public a unique perspective on Tainan’s distinctive cuisine.

The festival will unfold through five major themes—“Chef’s Signature Dishes,” “Old Tainan Flavors,” “Youthful Alleyways,” “Rural Hospitality,” and “Tainan Snack Banquet”—to narrate Tainan’s food culture and allow the public to gain an in-depth understanding of Taiwan’s regional culinary heritage.

Among them, the “Chef’s Signature Dishes” theme event will be held on December 12 at the Shihku Ren Tang Cultural and Creative Park in Tainan’s Renwu District. It will feature Chef Chia Chin, who won the gold medal at the “National Head Chefs’ Gourmet Competition,” preparing a menu primarily using local Tainan ingredients along with traditional-style shaved ice. Additionally, food writer, TV host, and culinary expert Liang Yu-hsiang, originally from Tainan, will serve as the storytelling host, sharing captivating tales behind the chef’s delicious dishes.

The “2015 Tainan Food Festival” has partnered with multiple travel agencies and hotel operators to create tailored two-day, one-night package tours. A series of activities are planned, integrating “food + storytelling + accommodation + sightseeing + performances” to allow participants not only to savor delicious cuisine but also to deeply explore Tainan’s local culture. Participation in these packages is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
