Winding through the urban jungle like vines—Kaohsiung’s new landmark “Tree Scenic Skywalk” is now complete

Located in Daxi Township, Kaohsiung, the scenic skywalk spans across Taiwan Provincial Highway 29 from the entrance of the Buddha Memorial Center and winds down to the nearby Mirror Terrace. Officially opened in October, the bridge features a sleek, curved design that resembles sprawling vines weaving through the rigid urban landscape. Coupled with its folding sunshade canopy that follows the curves, it is strikingly eye-catching and beautiful—making it a brand-new tourist attraction.

The Kaohsiung City Government Public Works Bureau’s New Works Division noted that the bridge connects with surrounding tourist attractions such as the Buddha Memorial Center, E-Da Theme Park, Qishan Station Old Street, Meinong Town, pottery kilns, and flower seas. Along with the interchanges along National Freeway No. 10, it forms a scenic corridor and shapes the surrounding landscape landmarks, helping to enhance Kaohsiung’s international visibility and boost tourism benefits in the area.

The bicycle and pedestrian scenic skybridge spanning Taiwan Provincial Highway 29 next to the Buddha Memorial Center in Daxi District began construction in August 2014 (103 year in Taiwan calendar), with a total budget of approximately NT$53 million. The construction team from the Kaohsiung City Government Public Works Bureau’s New Construction Division recently completed the colored asphalt paving on the bridge deck and the surrounding landscape planting, and has now opened the bridge to traffic.

The New Works Division stated that the bridge was built to alleviate the congestion caused by the convergence of pilgrims’ and tourists’ vehicles along Taiwan Provincial Highway 29 in front of the Buddha Memorial Center.This bridge is also the fourth bicycle bridge in Kaohsiung, following the Zuoying Cuihua Bicycle Bridge, the Gushan Ship Channel Scenic Bridge, and the Zhongshan Kaixuan Bicycle Bridge.
