October: Silver Grass

Silver grass can be considered one of autumn’s advance troops. Around this time, vast stretches of white silver grass cover green meadows, undulating along the hillsides and spreading out into a silvery-white world. Popular spots for silver grass viewing include Qixing Mountain’s Qingtian Gang, Lengshuikeng, Yulu Ancient Trail, as well as the Caoling Historic Trail in the Northeast Coast, or the Lanyang River. In recent years, Jiufen and Jinguashi have also become recommended destinations for silver grass viewing.

November to early December: White Chrysanthemum

Taiwan’s most popular spot for white chrysanthemum viewing is Tongluo Township in Miaoli County. Blessed with an elevated terrain and abundant sunlight, it’s ideal for growing white chrysanthemums, making it the largest producer in Taiwan. With an annual output of about 20,000 to 30,000 kilograms, it’s the region’s most distinctive natural product. In addition to popcorn-like white chrysanthemums, yellow chrysanthemums are also on display, attracting large numbers of visitors every year at this time.

Mid-November to mid-December: Maple Leaf Viewing

The highlight of the year’s end is the vibrant maple leaves that gradually paint the forests and treetops across Taiwan in red. With changes in altitude, you can also see a mix of red and yellow foliage, set against rolling mountains and misty clouds, creating a “maple” view that’s not to be missed at year’s end.
