The weather has suddenly turned cold these days—it caught me off guard when it got chilly out of nowhere, gosh~I didn’t even have time to change my wardrobe, so how about switching things up with food first~A couple of days ago, my younger sister told me there’s this fish soup place that looks really stylish, called ‘HoHsin Fish Soup’.After checking it out, Fatty Bi decided to invite colleagues for lunch on our duty Saturday and check out this new spot.

Aside from beef soup, Tainan also has fresh fish soup. Hexinghao Fresh Fish Soup is located on Zhongyi Road, right next to (the area near) Lins Department Store. There were quite a few diners during lunchtime. We were lucky enough to not have to wait in line when we went—pretty happy about that.

As soon as you walk into the shop, it completely breaks away from the traditional look of typical fresh fish soup joints. The space is simple and bright, with wooden tables and chairs and a white color scheme as the main tone. You can spot fish-themed decorations here and there—yep, matching the theme of a shop that sells fresh fish soup perfectly. The dining space is comfortable, with air conditioning on, though if it gets crowded, the seating can feel a bit tight.

There are many side dishes displayed on the counter.

Here’s the MENU
The main offering is fresh fish soup. There are 4 types of soup to choose from—you can go for soup noodles or just the plain fresh fish soup. The soup noodles cost an extra 40 NT$, and they come with seafood ingredients. For those who prefer rice, there are also rice options available.

The chopsticks are also pretty cute and thoughtfully designed~

At first I thought they were just regular chopstick sleeves, but when I opened one, it felt like drawing lots!! Thought it was kinda fun~ At first, both my colleague and I drew “Big Win”, and we thought all the slips were the same. But then our other two friends drew “Medium Win” and “Small Win”—turns out they’re actually different~

Fatty Bi rarely shows up—guess which one is me XD

Ginger Fresh Fish Soup | With Noodles $200

The soup noodles come with fish, seafood ingredients, and noodles as the main carb. The noodles are really Q (chewy), and the fish is grouper—tender, sweet, and some parts even have a nice Q texture, bouncy and delicious. Paired with ginger slices, the broth is refreshing, not heavy, and has no fishy smell. The meatballs inside are tasty too. I personally really like it~

Multigrain Melon Pork Rice $50
Fatty Bi loves this kind of rice. The melon pork topping is savory and pairs great with rice.

Miso Fresh Fish Soup $160
The miso broth is quite rich, with that distinctive savory umami flavor of miso. It’s more flavorful than my bowl of ginger soup. It also comes with grouper, but unlike the soup noodles, there are no additional seafood ingredients in the single fish soup. Friends who prefer a stronger taste might want to try the miso version.
