Last updated 2026-11-08 — The nights in Taichung become more charming as the night goes on, and pork rice is one of the favorite delicacies of Taichung people. You can find restaurants selling pork rice almost 24 hours a day. Every time I go to Taichung to eat delicious food, I always eat non-stop. Before going home, I go to the Tainan Su Milkfish next to Expressway 74 for a midnight snack. There are so many side dishes to choose from that I can’t stop eating.

The nights in Taichung get more charming as the evening goes on, and pork rice is one of the local favorite foods. You can find it being sold almost 24 hours a day. Every time I go to Taichung for food, I end up eating non-stop all day and then stop by 'Tainan Su Shimi Fish' near the Highway 74 before heading home for a late-night snack, where there’s a huge selection of side dishes to choose from.

I usually don't have the habit of eating late-night snacks, so I rarely go out to look for food at midnight. But this time when I went to Taichung, I found that there are actually many late-night food spots. And the business hours of Susu's Boneless Milt in Tainan allow you to eat from dinner until dawn, which is perfect for night owls to go out and look for food.

At the intersection of Municipal Road and Liming Road, there are four food shops lined up together. Since I wanted to try a new place, I came to Tainan Su Wu Ci Shengmu Fish Belly. It looked like the business was doing well too.

Seeing the dishes listed on the signboard really gives off the vibe of having street snacks in Tainan. If I hadn’t already eaten all day, I would have wanted to order more.

The shop also offers wasabi served in the southern style, and also sells jars of fish crackers.

I think the biggest difference from eating locally in Tainan is probably these side dishes that look so delicious—they seem even more abundant than what you’d get at a buffet.

Looking at this big pot of simmered tofu and meat is truly tempting. This humble street food has its own unique charm. It’s truly love-hate because while it’s delicious, it’s also quite indulgent with not-so-low calories...

Seeing the auntie busy stir-frying a big pot of pork tells you the shop is doing very well, cooking pot after pot, with a generous amount of minced pork~

In no time at all, the table was filled to the brim!! It feels great to go out without having to order, but the downside of a friend who orders too well is... eat first, then take the leftovers away~

The tofu skin is also quite flavorful, with a generous portion and soft texture, marinated very well, tasting somewhat like wheat gluten.

The cabbage stew is also cooked very tenderly, almost reaching the texture of melting in your mouth. The stewed cabbage goes well with rice.

Pork sauce rice $20

If you want pork sauce and fish floss, remember to order pork sauce rice. If you’re not into pork sauce, you can directly get fish floss rice. I’d recommend the pork sauce rice where you can enjoy both flavors at once. The amount of fish floss sprinkled is quite generous, and the pork sauce is rich and gelatinous. Even if you end up with oily lips, it’s super satisfying.

Marinated tofu

In the braised pot, I saw a big tub of braised tofu and just couldn’t resist ordering it. The outside was well-seasoned, and the texture was super tender, like handmade tofu.

Pork rice $50

This is the popular pork rice inside the store. If you like fatty meat, remember to tell the shopkeeper in advance. The one we had that day was from a leaner cut—I guess maybe because the auntie saw we were girls, so she gave us a leaner portion. Actually, I only dare to eat the lean part too~ The braising sauce is very fragrant, poured over white rice, making you want to eat a few more mouthfuls of rice.

Fish ball soup $30

Fish Skin Soup $90

I was hesitating between the milt soup and the fish skin soup, but finally chose the fish skin soup, which is rare in the north. The soup is very refreshing, but friends who are afraid of the fishy smell can dip it in wasabi. The total bill came to 360 yuan, and we ordered a full table—really super satisfying. We even took away a bento-sized portion. If you're looking for hot food late at night, this is a great choice~
