Hokkaido-exclusive high value-for-money Clown Restaurant: The No.1 popular chicken nugget burger

If you’re in Hakodate, then you absolutely can’t miss this clown burger shop that’s only available in Hokkaido, Japan—Lucky Pierrot, the Lucky Clown. The most unique thing is how outrageously colorful every single branch is. The burgers are Hokkaido-exclusive but not very expensive, and the best part is they’re actually really tasty—definitely better than the big M. Plus, aside from burgers, they also sell Japanese dishes like tonkatsu rice and yakisoba, all served in large portions.

We chose the branch closest to Hakodate Airport. Most independent travelers would probably find Hakodate Station Branch more convenient. But if you're driving around Hokkaido, it makes no difference.

The area here is pretty open (?), so the restaurant is absolutely huge—~~~

As soon as you walk in, you see Halloween pumpkins that match the season.

I actually think it has a nice retro American vibe—the lampshades remind me of some steakhouse in Taiwan.

Time to order—~~~

There are lots of menu options, all with photos, so just pick what you like based on the pictures. They also mark the most and second-most popular items—personally, I think those indicators are pretty accurate.

There’s even a “Yummy Bell” in the restaurant—if you think your meal is delicious, ring the bell when you finish (though it’s a bit loud).

Even the restroom here is a bit theatrical...

Ordering a burger and soda seems normal, but I didn’t want to risk it, so this was my friend’s order. It tasted pretty weird... kinda like the scent of Calpis.

Oh, and I forgot to mention—they have desserts too, like apple pie and other cakes. The apple pie has a huge chunk of apple inside, but I was too full to try it.

The hot corn chowder had the whole corn blended into the soup—it was thick and pretty good, though it had a slightly overly milky taste.

Another person ordered yakisoba—quite a big portion, but I didn’t try it so I can’t say how it tasted.

And then this dish that was super impressive when it arrived—tonkatsu rice!!!! This one~~

The portion size is seriously outrageous!!!

It might not look like much when first opened, but for one guy, it’s still a pretty decent amount—two pork cutlets as big as a face, plus at least two bowls’ worth of rice. I only had the pork cutlet, and it was delicious!! So good!! Crispy on the outside, tender inside.

My meal arrived. I ordered the combo set with fries. The fries were seasoned with a spice mix—the flavor was so strong it reminded me of something curry-like, plus a thick cheese sauce. It got a bit too rich after a while, to be honest~~~

This is another friend’s order—a ginger-something pork burger. It was pricier and not very tasty... a bit strange, and the pork was quite fatty.

I ordered the No.1 popular chicken nugget burger—390 yen for one.

So good!! The chicken nuggets were fried perfectly, coated in a sweet sauce, paired with a sweet salad dressing and crisp veggies. Delicious!! I loved it. Highly recommended burger. Tasty and affordable.
