Alishan Fenchihu Winter Eco-Tour: Visit Taiwan’s Only Winter Firefly Spot

Fireflies in winter? In autumn and winter, Alishan offers not only maple leaf viewing, walks along ancient tree trails, or forest railway rides through the mountains, but also the chance to admire the spectacle of fireflies dancing in the night. The Alishan National Scenic Area Administration will launch a two-day, one-night “Fenchihu Winter Eco-Tour” in December, taking travelers deep into nature to experience its beauty.

The administration noted that many people assume firefly viewing is only possible in spring and summer, but Alishan hosts a unique, winter-exclusive firefly event. Major firefly sighting spots are along the trail from Fenchihu Railway Station to the Temple of the Earth God and from Fenchihu to Dadongshan. Visitors can stroll along the mountain loop ecological trail to explore the blue starry sky scattered through the forests.

The “Fenchihu Winter Eco-Tour” is a two-day, one-night trip with departure dates on December 2, 14, and 22. The tour fee is NT$2,799 per person for a double room and NT$2,599 per person for a quadruple room, with a maximum of 28 people per group. The tour includes guided exploration of Alishan’s unique ecology and scenery, the forest railway, as well as activities such as cloud-watching, tea tasting, and firefly viewing.
