No more competition between pedestrians and vehicles on roads—Sheepdog Ranch plans to build elevated walkways

Surrounding Sheepdog Ranch are famous attractions such as Hehuan Mountain, Lushan Hot Springs, and Aowanda Forest Recreation Area. During holidays, the area is crowded with visitors, often leading to hazardous scenes of people and vehicles sharing the road. To separate pedestrian and vehicular traffic in Sheepdog Ranch, Nantou County Government has planned to construct an elevated safety walkway,extending from Sheepdog Ranch National Guesthouse to the Livestock Center, with a total length of about 3,500 meters. Standing on the walkway, you can also enjoy a distant view of the Central Mountain Range (Hehuan Mountain, Nenggao Mountain, and Qilai Mountain ranges), making it the first and only sightseeing and leisure walkway in the country with this landscape.

The elevated safety walkway will be built along the right side of Provincial Highway 14A within the ranch’s pasture area, using steel-frame elevated construction for a wooden boardwalk. It will be approximately 1,500 meters long and 2.5 meters wide, with varying heights adapted to the terrain. The walkway will pass through Qingqing Prairie Shopping Street to the North Prairie Visitor Center, then connect to the existing 55-step boardwalk of Qingqing Prairie, leading on foot to the National Guesthouse, forming a circular sightseeing pedestrian corridor with a total length of about 3,500 meters.

The county government stated that the project budget is about NT$49.5 million, with 70% subsidized by the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications. The plan includes constructing elevated boardwalks, elevated viewing platforms, safety walkways, overhead bridges, and other greening and beautification facilities. The project will be jointly developed and managed by Nantou County Government and Sheepdog Ranch, aiming not only to enhance road user safety but also to increase the tourism value of the Sheepdog Ranch area.
