The super-cute hopping horse-themed restaurant Caffe Rody finally began its soft opening on November 6 and is set to officially open on November 20. Even before stepping inside, many are drawn in by the restaurant’s appearance, especially the four Rody-shaped rocking horses by the entrance. Not only do kids rush to sit on them upon seeing them, but many young girls can’t resist giving them a try too. Once inside, your eyes will be met with countless Rody figures of all sizes, and there’s even a Rody carousel on the ceiling.
The themed restaurant Caffe Rody is the third themed eatery from Leap Forward Culture following the Ugly Dumpling’s Secret Garden bistro and the Hello Kitty hotpot restaurant. Leap Forward Culture General Manager Chen Jianpei is steadily building his vision of a themed restaurant kingdom. Chen noted that Caffe Rody is the world’s first Rody-themed restaurant. The exclusive chef-hat-wearing Rody figure was designed by Japanese art director Eifu Maeda, bringing a unique visual identity to both the environment and menu items at Caffè Rody. The overall design reinterprets playful and joyful elements in a fashionable way, combining a dignified layout with creative, artistic diversity to create a stylish, cute, comfortable, and relaxing atmosphere.

For Rody fans, visiting Caffe Rody will surely make them scream with excitement. In addition to various Rody merchandise (ranging from the tiniest pens to the largest suitcases), the store also displays a variety of limited and out-of-print Rody figures, many of which are on loan from the original manufacturer, according to Lin Rong. On the first and second floors, there are 11 out-of-print large Rody hopping horses, the most valuable of which is priced at NT$50,000. The display case near the staircase leading to the basement also houses limited-edition Rody items, also on loan for display. Store manager Lin Rong also pointed out that to showcase different Rody versions, they created two one-of-a-kind Rody figures: the giant silver-plated Rody right at the entrance and the gold-plated Rody on the second floor.
If possible, Chen Jianpei hopes that themed restaurants can have more interactive features with customers. At the Ugly Dumpling restaurant, you can feed the creatures or put up your own face photo, while at Caffe Rody, besides sitting on the rocking horses (limited to 60 kg), you can also give Rody a new look. By scanning a QR code with your phone and following the instructions, you can paint a unique design on a large Rody on the wall. As for the Rody carousel on the ceiling, Lin Rong said it rotates for 15 minutes every hour.

Since Rody was originally an inflatable toy horse designed in Italy but later developed into a brand by the Japanese company JAMMY, the Caffe Rody menu features a blend of Italian and Japanese styles — incorporating Japanese elements into Italian dishes. Examples include salads with Osaka-style flavors, pasta topped with soft-boiled eggs, or paired with Japanese-style fried chicken. However, Lin Rong also mentioned that not every dish has to be a fusion; some are prepared using traditional methods. As a themed restaurant, Rody-shaped dishes are a must — from salads, appetizers, sauces, main courses to desserts, Rody figures pop up everywhere.
Among all the menu items, is there a manager’s recommendation? Lin Rong said that during the tasting process, he personally advocated for the Rody-Q Bouncy Scottish Egg — a whole soft-boiled egg wrapped in ground beef, then coated with breadcrumbs and deep-fried, offering a double texture of crispy outside and springy inside. Paired with Mexican-style salsa, the flavor becomes even more layered. However, the downside is that the salsa is a bit spicy, making it unsuitable for children who can’t handle heat. Manager Lin Rong said they’ll discuss this further with the head chef.

▲ Tomato Meat Sauce Pasta (NT$320)
