Taipei’s long-established Western restaurant Ruihua has announced its closure, with operations continuing until November 30. It is reported that Chef Zhang, who took over as head chef after the passing of the founder Trummer, is preparing to retire, and the sous-chef has no intention of taking over. Ultimately, the restaurant owner decided to shut down. Having been in business for nearly 40 years, Ruihua had previously closed for nearly a year. With the news of its impending closure, many loyal customers expressed their regret and immediately made reservations, hoping to enjoy Swiss cuisine one last time before it shuts its doors.

Chalet Swiss is the English name of Ruihua Restaurant, meaning “a cozy chalet nestled in the beautiful mountains of Switzerland.” Since its opening in 1978, it has served classic Swiss dishes such as Burgundy fondue, cheese fondue, chocolate fondue, Zurich veal, and shrimp in pepper sauce. This time, due to the retirement of the head chef and the sous-chef’s unwillingness to take over, the owner feels unable to continue offering authentic Swiss cuisine and has therefore decided to close, with operations continuing until November 30. As soon as the news broke, many loyal customers rushed to make reservations. Currently, almost all lunchtime slots up to the end of November are fully booked, and only small tables for 2–4 people remain for dinner.
