The “Silver Bullet” light rail car, absent for 19 years, made a grand return at Taipei Station on the morning of the 28th, attracting 400 railway enthusiasts who arrived early in the morning to ride it all the way to Kaohsiung and Taitung, reliving old memories.

To commemorate its 20th anniversary, the Chinese Railway Culture Association specially co-hosted an event with the “Southern Park Railway Club,” renting the nearly 50-year-old DR2700 diesel rail car, commonly known as the “Silver Bullet,” from the Taiwan Railways Administration. On November 28, they launched the special commemorative train “Silver Glow – 20th Anniversary Run of the Railway Association’s Silver Bullet,” which departed from Taipei Station at 9:15 a.m., traveling along the West Coast Main Line to Kaohsiung before continuing on to Taitung.

The “Light Rail Car” was introduced in 1966 as the fastest land transportation in Taiwan at the time. The DR2700 diesel rail car, commonly referred to as the “Silver Bullet,” stood out greatly during an era dominated mostly by black steam locomotives. This recreation of the Light Rail Car began at 9:15 a.m. on the 28th, departing from Taipei and traveling along the West Coast Main Line to Kaohsiung, then continuing on to Taitung. Along the West Coast Main Line, there were only six stops. This event marked the first time in 19 years, since 1996, that the “Silver Bullet” traversed the full route between Taipei and Kaohsiung once again.
