Railway hotels to open at 8 train stations in 2017

TRA is set to launch railway hotels as early as 2017, selecting 8 stations from the island's 225 train stations to be redesigned as railway hotels. The 8 locations nationwide are:Keelung, Qidu, Xinyi, Yuanlin, Pingtung, Chaozhou, Xincheng, and Yuli. The goal is to make it easier for passengers to handle luggage, stay overnight, and access essential daily amenities.

Chen Shuhui, general manager of TRA’s Freight Service Headquarters, said that this concept was inspired by European and Japanese trains, mainly by extending the functionality of station spaces or their surroundings. The hotels will be designed mostlywith the warm hospitality characteristic of TRAin mind, featuring small but charming rooms, with limited numbers leaning towardbudget and business rooms, around 10 rooms each. At larger train stations, the number may go up to 20–30 rooms.The railway hotel project aims to integrate local culture to create uniquely styled accommodations, allowing travelers to check in with just a backpack for added convenience, while also generating new revenue for TRA.
