Ready for a challenge? Taiwan's largest cornfield maze in Yizhu has arrived

Can you make it out? Locatedin Yizhu Township, Chiayi County, this 12-hectare golden cornfield maze—the largest in Taiwan—opened on the 2nd to hundreds of elementary and middle school teachers and students for a trial run. The students, drenched in sweat, weaved through the maze, striving to find the exit,and it took the group about 40 minutes to complete the 2-kilometer course, with everyone exclaiming how fun and exciting it was.

Yizhu has long been the largest corn-producing region in Taiwan. To promote the country’s non-GMO hard corn industry, the Yizhu Township Office, Yizhu Township Farmers’ Association, and Humanity Culture and Education Foundation jointly launched the “2015 Yizhu Corn Culture Festival” series of events. Tied in with the upcoming Year of the Monkey, the theme is “Golden Cornfield ~ Fun with the Monkey Maze.” In addition to the corn carnival, local specialty product fair, and stone monkey carving art exhibition at kilometer 94.2 on Provincial Highway 19 on the 5th, the most eye-catching attraction is the 12-hectare golden cornfield maze.

The organizers emphasized that this year’s maze features more intricate patterns and is more challenging than previous years. Currently, the corn is still growing, but once it matures to adult height, the Monkey Family design will become more visible. Additionally, there are challenge checkpoints within the corn maze, and visitors who collect enough stamps can exchange them for small gifts at the service desk. Organizers also remind attendees that all the corn in the activity area is hard corn and must not be picked.
