Continuing from earlier after lunch atGenkiya, I headed straight here for a second meal. It’s a restaurant specializing in Japanese-style pasta and a few Japanese-style Western dishes. By 2 PM, there weren’t many customers. When I walked in, the staff informed me they were understaffed that day, so service might be a bit slow. I appreciated the heads-up — luckily, I had nothing else on my schedule.

After being seated, I checked out the menu. The pasta comes in several flavors: soy sauce, tomato, cream, and olive oil. Having never tried Japanese-style pasta before, I debated between soy sauce and olive oil — in the end, soy sauce won out, probably because I thought it would feel more Japanese.

Among the soy sauce options, I was interested in the Japanese teriyaki chicken pasta and the crispy fried chicken & mushroom pasta. Unfortunately, my friend J had something to take care of that day and couldn’t join me, so I ended up ordering just one dish.

Japanese-style pasta is made differently — they stir-fry the noodles first, then add the sauce. I’m guessing this fried chicken & mushroom pasta involved lightly stir-frying the noodles before mixing in the soy sauce and reducing it. Unlike typical Italian pasta, which tends to be saucier with a slippery, elastic texture and soft center, these noodles were chewy. The flavor of Japanese soy sauce — savory and slightly sweet — coated the pasta, giving off a faint aroma reminiscent of soy-sauce-flavored fried rice, though smoother and gentler than the bold, almost burnt aroma of soy sauce seared in a hot wok. I thought it was delicious.

The four pieces of fried chicken were just the right size, with a crispy texture similar to Taiwanese sweet potato starch coating. They had a nice bounce and juicy meat, seasoned simply with a soy-sauce-based marinade without too many extra spices. Salty and fragrant, they left a subtle tangy aftertaste.

I quite enjoyed this dish. To finish, I also ordered a single serving of O-Mu fresh milk soft-serve ice cream with black tea — a relaxed and enjoyable meal overall.
