The Wanjin Christmas Season 3D Light Show: Scenes of Four Seasons in Pingtung Shine on the Sacred Shrine

The highlight of the Wanjin Christmas Season, the 3D light projection show, debuted on the 10th. This year’s 10-minute light show not only continues the religious and festive Christmas atmosphere but also specially incorporates major local festivals in Pingtung County, including the Black Tuna Festival, Mango Season, Wild Ginger Flower Festival, Harvest Festival, Sihchengxi Hot Spring Season, and Hakka Cannon Fort games, presenting the highlights of the region across all four seasons. Yan Fenglan, Director of the Tourism and Communication Department, pointed out that to align with the religious activities at the Basilica of the National Shrine of St. Mary, the schedule of light shows varies daily and is subject to adjustments based on on-site conditions. A special show will also take place at 11:50 PM on December 24, Christmas Eve.

This year’s light show opens with Genesis, then takes audiences through the four seasons to highlight Pingtung’s characteristics. In spring, the encounter of Donggang’s black tuna and sakura shrimp leads into the Fangshan mango season, capturing the busyness of harvest; in summer, travelers are invited to bike through the wild ginger flower season and experience the vibrant Manzhou Flying Fish Festival, along with the Indigenous Harvest Festival; as autumn and winter arrive, the Sihchengxi hot springs soothe travelers’ fatigue, followed by the Hakka Cannon Fort games, where Hakka festivities welcome the New Year. Finally, the show transitions into Pingtung’s warm Christmas season, transforming the Basilica of the National Shrine of St. Mary into a dreamy island and candy gift wonderland. A dazzling array of light and sound effects weaves a colorful and festive Christmas ambiance.

Additionally, to facilitate public participation in the Wanjin Christmas Season and alleviate traffic congestion, the Pingtung County Government has designated parking areas at Wanjin Military Camp, Wanluan Route 2 Road, and the Meihua University of Technology parking lot (the parking lot at the intersection of Provincial Highway 1 and Xueren Road). Some roadside parking is also available on roads near Neipu and Zhenyuan, including Hexing Road, Wenshan Road, Nanhua Road, Zhongxing Road, and Xuexing Road, accommodating over 2,500 cars and motorcycles in total.

After parking, visitors can transfer to free shuttle buses. The Pingtung County Tourism and Communication Department recommends that visitors can also take the train to Pingtung Railway Station or Chaozhou Railway Station and then transfer to the shuttle buses. Four routes depart respectively from the Pingtung Bus Terminal, Wanjin Military Camp, Chaozhou Railway Station, and Neipu, transporting passengers to Wulaluzi Tribe and the intersection of Dongshan Road in Chishan Village. Starting from the opening on December 12, buses run every 15 to 25 minutes between 4:00 PM and midnight every Saturday and Sunday; on Christmas Eve, buses run every 10 to 25 minutes from 4:00 PM to 2:00 AM, with additional services added as needed.
