Nun Yinniang’s Master Turns into a Dancing Plane – Cheng Fang-yi: EVA Air Accompanies Me in Chasing My Dance Dream

Invited by EVA Air, internationally renowned dancerCheng Fang-yi, known as the “heir to Martha Graham,” served as the spokesperson for the Star Alliance. In the advertisement, she gracefully presented the concept of an aerial flight network through her signature dance moves and physical expressions. Having performed on stages in major cities around the world for many years, Cheng Fang-yi said, “EVA Air has always been with me in chasing my dreams.”

To penetrate various markets, the Star Alliance, which has 28 member airlines, launched this year’s campaign themed “The Way I Like To Travel,” producing exclusive advertisements for its member carriers. Recognizing Cheng Fang-yi’s outstanding achievements in the international dance community and her localized identity as a native of Yilan, EVA Air proactively reached out to her through Yung Ching Yeh, Chairman of the Culture Foundation, a public welfare platform. After more than half a year of conceptualization and production, this collaboration was successfully realized.

Cheng Fang-yi is one of Taiwan’s foremost dancers and has also served as the principal dancer of the Martha Graham Dance Company in the United States. With her exceptional performances, she has been hailed as the heir to Martha Graham and has appeared in films such as “Touch of the Light” and “The Assassin.”Cheng Fang-yi said that during the shooting of the Star Alliance advertisement, the director asked her to use dance to express the feeling of a plane taking off and landing. She really enjoyed the challenge of interpreting such themes, so she danced in her own way—flying, circling, and returning to the origin—truly feeling as if she were piloting a plane.

Cheng Fang-yi also mentioned that EVA Air is the airline she has flown with the most over the past 20-plus years, accompanying her in chasing her dreams for a very long time. EVA Air has consistently provided her with a reassuring flying experience. Although she travels around the world, she has been so immersed in work that she doesn’t really know how to travel properly. Therefore, she hopes to truly let go in the future and learn how to travel.

Head of Public Relations at EVA AirNieh Kuo-weisaid that this advertisement was shot by a British video production team. The few seconds of footage actually required Cheng Fang-yi to continuously dance and adjust for over four hours to achieve the perfect result. The halo on Cheng Fang-yi’s wrist flowing and extending against a dark background also symbolizes the interconnected flight networks of EVA Air and the Star Alliance. Starting today, Cheng Fang-yi’s endorsement advertisement will be aired on EVA Air flights, in lounges, on the official website, and other platforms.
