Winter Bird Watching Craze Begins — Head to Taiwan’s Southern Bird Paradise for the Kenting Waterfowl Festival Starting Dec. 19

Where to go bird watching this winter? As the cold winds grow stronger and move southward, migratory ducks and waterfowl from the north gradually head south to spend the winter on the waters and wetlands of Longluan Lake in Kenting National Park.The Kenting National Park Headquarters will launch a series of events under the “Winter Feathers Ballad – Kenting Waterfowl Festival”starting December 19, in addition to various interpretive activities where bird enthusiasts can come to observe the waterfowl.

The wetlands of both Longluan Lake and Caotan Lake have been protected by Kenting National Park, harboring an abundance of aquatic life such as fish, shrimp, shellfish, and insects, making them ideal feeding grounds for birds. These areas attract migratory waterfowl from places like Siberia, mainland China, and Japan, which gather here to spend the winter, forming an important “waterbird paradise” in southern Taiwan.

For bird lovers and migratory birds alike, Longluan Lake is the “paradise for birds” in southern Taiwan. According to the park authorities, nearly a hundred migratory birds have already arrived here to endure the cold winter.The peak period for the arrival and numbers of migratory waterfowl runs from December through February and March of the following year, making this the best time for visitors to watch the waterbirds.Information about the event can be found on theKenting National Park Headquarterswebsite.
