Romantic to the Max！Pingtung’s Wanjin Christmas Festival Kicks Off, Illuminating a Sea of a Thousand Rose Lights

On the evening of the 10th, the Wanjin Christmas Festival lit up its 12-foot-tall main light installation “Shared Blessings,” which was designed around the local religious culture with a theme of 12 angels. Paired with 154 star-shaped lights representing the 154-year history of the Wanjin Basilica, and incorporating various materials, it created an angelic atmosphere as if in the clouds, heralding the joyful start of the Wanjin Christmas Festival. In addition, the festival has planned five major light zones, allowing visitors strolling through the streets around Wanjin to immerse themselves in a rich Christmas ambiance.

Inside the basilica, the theme combines Christmas fairy-tale gingerbread figures with biblical stories, along with a sea of lights made up of a thousand roses. The “Joyful Red Christmas Hill” features expansive starry sky street decorations paired with Christmas trees, stockings, and candy cane light displays to evoke the Christmas spirit. The “Mountain and Sea Abundant Blue Angels” zone centers around indigenous culture, with light designs that accompany star-shaped lamps while using bamboo weaving techniques. Christmas tree and reindeer-shaped lights guide visitors coming from the Ulaljuc Tribe intersection. On the other side, welcoming guests approaching the T-junction near the Wanjin Basilica, the pathways are adorned with rose light displays representing the Virgin Mary, angelic light art, and heavenly harps, all set against a golden road—like a grand avenue leading to the Wanjin Christmas Festival.

The Tourism and Communications Department stated that during the Wanjin Christmas Festival, the county government repurposed the old Wanjin Village health clinic into a Christmas-themed pavilion. The interior design includes themes such as “Let’s Travel to Wanjin” and “A Journey at the Dining Table.” “Let’s Travel to Wanjin” is arranged with a travel concept, showcasing tourism books, brochures, and sightseeing photos related to Pingtung, Wanluan, and Wanjin, helping visitors plan their trips. “A Journey at the Dining Table” presents the Last Supper of Jesus and displays local agricultural specialties from the Wanjin area, including coffee, calamansi, cocoa, roselle, egg rolls, and other ingredients and desserts.
