Riding elephants is considered animal abuse ! India is promoting a campaign to ban elephant rides in tourism

The classic activity of riding elephants in India may be banned in the future, as the Indian Supreme Court is petitioning for elephant welfare rights.

According to the UK’s Daily Mail, currentlytwo states in India have made elephant rides an illegal tourist activity, as they believe the animals are being abused, and the local supreme court is petitioning on behalf of elephants because they are not properly cared for after carrying tourists up mountains.

Only 50 elephants in government-supported elephant villages are provided with food, bathing, and walks, while most privately owned elephants suffer from improper treatment, both mentally and physically.

Currently, 63 companies worldwide have pledged not to sell any activities involving elephant rides or elephant shows, including TUI Nederland, Intrepid Travel, Apollo, Albatros Travel, and World Expeditions, among others.
