The Jungfraubahn railway company recently designed a 12-meter-high Christmas tree at the summit of the Jungfrau. Located at an altitude as high as 3,454 meters, the tree, when viewed from the air, appears to be built amidst a snowy valley, bringing a festive warmth to the winter Jungfrau.

The “Jungfrau Christmas Tree” comes from the forest near the Lauterbrunnen Waterfall town close to the Jungfrau. To “plant” it on the Jungfrau without being affected by the high altitude, the Jungfraubahn railway company immediately used a helicopter to transport the tree after it was cut down, then dug about 2.5 meters deep into the ground for planting. The high-altitude operation also took environmental impacts into consideration, and eventually the team decorated the tree with Christmas lights and placed it atop the Jungfrau.

This Christmas tree on the Jungfrau will be on display from now until December 26. The Jungfraubahn railway company stated that it has been specially placed to thank visitors for their support throughout the year. A Christmas tree will also be designed again next year to offer more surprises to travelers.
