Have you ever seen scarecrows in near-life-size, cartoonish shapes?The “Scarecrow Art Festival” in Tienzhong Township, Changhua County, kicks off with a bang on the 19th. On display are a 4-meter-tall “Old Farmer Leading Young Farmer” scarecrow creation symbolizing agricultural heritage, as well as figures of the God of Wealth, the Earth God, the Earth Goddess, and various cute-shaped scarecrows—among them, the super adorable Minion scarecrow has become the center of attention.

Spanning twelve hectares of fallow farmland, the festival showcases a wide variety of scarecrows, accompanying visitors as they play in the fields, enjoy the rural fun, watch performances by local groups, take part in fun challenge games for prizes, join parent-child activities in the straw maze to receive lucky rice, and sample free shredded cabbage chicken and pickled vegetable duck. With rich and exciting content, the event hopes to bring joy both in play and in food.

Wei Ming-ku, Magistrate of Changhua County, stated,The art festival promotes local rice culture by paying tribute to scarecrows, hosting a local agricultural specialty product exhibition and sale, promoting the nutritional benefits of rice among citizens, and encouraging consumers to eat more high-quality locally produced rice.Another theme of the event is the “Tienzhong Rice Creative Bento Contest,” where a winning bento box will be selected through competition to become the annual specialty product of Tienzhong Township.
