The new year is just around the corner, and people are starting to plan their countdown celebrations across Taiwan. In addition to New Year’s Eve concerts and welcoming the first sunrise of the year,the Tainan City Government Tourism Bureau has unveiled several beautiful sunset viewing spotsalong the west coast of Tainan, including Beimen, Jiangjun, Qigu, Sicao, Anping, and Kunxi Bay. 1. Beimen O_lake and Jingzijiao Tile-Pans Salt Field
These are two highly popular sunset spots along the west coast. On December 31st every year, the Tainan City Government and the Yunlin-Kaohsiung-Tainan Coastal National Scenic Area Administration jointly host the "Farewell Sunset" event as part of the New Year’s Eve trilogy. During autumn and winter, visitors can also enjoy watching the Black-faced Spoonbills dancing gracefully against the orange-red sunset.

Visitors can also explore nearby attractions such as the famous Nanwang Daitianfu Temple, Crystal Cathedral, and the Blackfoot Disease Medical Memorial Hall to take in the scenic beauty of Tainan’s west coast. Additionally, at Jiangjun Fishing Port, besides experiencing the fun of "calling the fish" and savoring fresh seafood, you can leisurely stroll along the harbor at sunset and enjoy the spectacular sea view.

2. Qigu O_lake and Qigu Nanwan Pier
This is a favorite sunset spot among photographers. The endless sea reflects brilliant hues, while fishing boats and oyster racks add charm to the picturesque scenery. A visit to Qigu wouldn’t be complete without trying the local seafood specialties—milkfish, clams, oysters, and shrimp—all incredibly delicious. Travelers can also explore nearby attractions such as the Qigu Salt Mountain, Black-faced Spoonbill Ecology Exhibition Hall, and Mangrove Nature Reserve.

3. Lin Mo-niang Park
The 16-meter-tall statue of Lin Mo-niang, with a 4-meter base, was donated by entrepreneur and founder of the Chimei Museum, Mr. Xu Wenlong. This Mazu-themed park is a great spot for locals to relax, take walks, or fly kites. In the evening glow of the setting sun, the park takes on a uniquely charming atmosphere.

4. Anping Sunset Viewing Platform
The Anping Sunset Viewing Platform is another popular sunset destination. With the gentle sea breeze and the sound of crashing waves, the sunset gradually paints the sky and sea in shades of red. In the distance, the blinking lights of the Anping Lighthouse add to the romantic ambiance. It's truly an enchanting place that visitors won’t want to leave. When visiting Anping, don’t miss the historic sites and the delicious street food along Anping Old Street.

5. Kunxi Bay
Kunxi Bay stretches along the golden coastline from Kunshu, Xishu to Wanli in southern Tainan. Visitors can ride along the Golden Coast bicycle path to admire the stunning seascape where the sky meets the sea at sunset. The route passes landmarks such as the Longkang Overpass, Golden Coast Visitor Center, and Waterfront Park, each offering unique views. Come and experience it for yourself.

6. Sicao Bridge
Connecting Taijiang and downtown Tainan, the bridge faces west toward the Taiwan Strait. At sunset, the ocean glows in golden hues, creating a breathtaking sight. After visiting the nearby Taijiang National Park, tourists can spend a relaxing afternoon at Sicao Bridge, enjoying the sunset while sipping coffee or watching fishermen cast their lines.
