Keelung Maritime Science Museum’s Bataozi Painted Cabin Completed, Showcasing Local Fish Market Culture

The Keelung Ocean Science Museum has collaborated with community colleges for two consecutive years to paint local neighborhoods, and this year, it further engaged local businesses to depict the vibrant atmosphere of selling fresh seafood. The early-days Bataozi fish market has been brought to life on the painted cabin, becoming a local highlight. On the first day of its completion, the cabin attracted tourists who came to take photos.

The new mural is located on the exterior wall of “New? Cargo” next to Bataozi Fishing Port, featuring highly localized and strikingly three-dimensional artwork. Chen Yikai, Executive Vice President of “New? Cargo,” expressed his delight in collaborating with the museum. The artist depicted his journey from ages 18 to 30 and also illustrated the early fishing experiences, which he found truly impressive.

The collaboration between the maritime science museum and the community college adds local character. This time, the composition concept was created by Lin Hongwei, an art teacher at Keelung Girls’ High School. On the day the painting was completed, Museum Director Wu Junren and Community College President Liao Dapeng personally visited to encourage and recognize the participating teachers and students.

Thank you to the teachers and students for their dedication to community building, allowing the neighborhood and the maritime science museum to grow together. We welcome anyone with free time to visit, take photos, and witness the historical development of the fishing village from past to present.
