The Happy Dawn Flight takes off—be the first in the sky to greet the first light of dawn!

China Airlines’ Happy Dawn Flight welcomed the first and highest sunrise in Taiwan together with passengers at high altitude on New Year’s Day. It also pioneered the limited sale of high-altitude lucky bags. Passengers enjoyed the sunrise while listening to the melodious singing of gondoliers (Gondola), marking the arrival of a brand-new year.

China Airlines flight CI2016 from Taoyuan to Hong Kong took off from Taoyuan Airport at 5:20 a.m. on January 1st. Among the 158 lucky passengers were seniors over eighty and children under ten, all traveling together as a family to chase the dawn. After arriving at an altitude of 30,000 feet over Yilan at 5:45 a.m., the flight flew southward along the eastern coastline and reached Hualien’s seashore at 6:18 a.m., winning the race to witness the earliest and highest sunrise in Taiwan, greeting the first light of the Year of the Monkey ahead of everyone else on the plains. China Airlines also invited gondoliers aboard to perform live singing. At the moment the sun rose, the singers, hidden among the passengers, slowly chanted melodies, creating a delightful surprise.

To welcome passengers, China Airlines held activities such as prize quizzes and photo check-ins at the boarding gate for the Happy Dawn Flight. Passengers could receive a “Happy Dawn Gift,” including a commemorative boarding certificate, a CI2016 model airplane, and a commemorative gold-champagne bottle, among other thoughtful gifts. Additionally, China Airlines pioneered the sale of duty-free lucky bags, featuring a high-altitude lucky bag containing a premium skincare travel set, with a total value of TWD 3,800, available at a New Year’s special price of TWD 2,000—that’s a 53% discount off the market price, limited to 30 sets.

After enjoying the New Year’s Day dawn, the “2016 China Airlines Happy Dawn Flight” flew to Hong Kong, arriving at 8:15 a.m. Passengers then took the exclusive “Golden Jetfoil” hydrofoil to Macau to enjoy an exciting two-day tour of Hong Kong and Macau. They finally returned to Taipei on flight CI920 at 7:50 p.m., scheduled to arrive at 9:25 p.m. Alternatively, they could directly take flight CI910 at 2:15 p.m., arriving in Taipei at 3:50 p.m.
