On the last day of the New Year’s holiday break, traffic heading north to return to work surged across the country. The National Freeway Bureau also forecasts eight congestion-prone areas starting from the afternoon of the 3rd and reminds drivers to stay alert.

The National Freeway Bureau stated that an estimated 2.4 million vehicle trips are expected on the 3rd as people return to work. Starting in the afternoon, it will take nearly five hours to drive between Taipei and Kaohsiung. In addition, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., high-occupancy regulations will be enforced at the entrances of all interchanges from Su’ao to Toucheng on Freeway No. 5 northbound. The Puyan System northbound entrance on Freeway No. 1 and the Zhushan northbound entrance interchange on Freeway No. 3 will remain closed all day.

The National Freeway Bureau also pointed out that starting from the afternoon of the 3rd, eight congestion-prone road sections are expected, namely:Freeway No. 1 northbound from Hsinchu to Yangmei, Houli to Tai’an Service Area, Sihlu to Yuanlin, Freeway No. 3 northbound from Daxi to Yingge System, Zhunan to Xibin, Qingshui Service Area to Dajia, Gukeng System to Mianjian, and Freeway No. 5 northbound from Yilan to Nangang SystemDrivers are advised to take note.
