Originally the Tainan District Court during the Japanese colonial period, this Grade II historic site is a century-old building that underwent 13 years of restoration before officially opening to the public in 2016, attracting a large number of visitors. Influenced by the Westernization policies of the Japanese colonial era, the former Tainan District Court site is imbued with a strong Western architectural style. The Baroque-style three-dimensional carvings, classical arches, and ornate columns make it feel as if you’re in Europe.

In addition to admiring the architecture, the most mysterious spot at the former Tainan District Court is the “catwalk,” which is open to limited daily visitors. It features the distinctive characteristics of a traditional French Mansard roof structure, accommodating a maximum of just 20 people at a time. Walking beneath the creaking old wooden walkway offers a unique perspective of the building. To celebrate its first anniversary, the site will also open to the public for the first time at night from November 10 to 12 for three consecutive days. On November 11, an evening concert will be held inside the building, allowing visitors to continue their exploration after dark.
