Aerial footage of Chiayi’s “High Heel Church” revealed — stunning with 320 pieces of glass

The newly built large-scale art installation “Glass High Heel Church” in Budai, Chiayi has recently become very popular, with its main structure recently completed. From the outside, it looks like a crystal-clear giant high heel, which is quite eye-catching. Recently, the Chiayi County Government also released an aerial video of the High Heel Church, showing the church’s majestic presence even more prominently when viewed from above.

The Glass High Heel Church is located in the Seaview Park in Budai, Chiayi. It stands about 17 meters tall and 11 meters wide, with its exterior composed of 320 pieces of glass. The church incorporates elements of traditional Taiwanese culture. In the past, the southwestern coastal areas of Taiwan were heavily affected by blackfoot disease. Girls who contracted the illness often had to undergo amputations to save their lives, thus losing their dream of walking down the red carpet in high heels. Therefore, the creation of the High Heel Church also symbolizes the tradition where brides would break tiles under their high heels upon marriage, signifying the casting away of bad luck.

Currently, among the 100 planned photo spots curated by the Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan Management Office, 71 have been completed, including installations such as lover’s benches, cookies, and cakes. The aerial footage showcases the overall structure of the church and highlights the beauty of its details, making it highly anticipated. In addition to the aerial video, the Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan Scenic Area Administration has also launched a naming campaign on its Facebook fan page, hoping to find a new name that captures the church’s beauty.
